About Me

Experiences that have shaped me.

A Tale of a Time

Bar chat can change your life. It changed mine. An otherwise unremarkable conversation with a stranger in a bar in Hong Kong bulldozed the path I was on and brutally murdered whomever I was becoming.

This is a brief history of who I've been since then with a little hint of who I was before. If I'm the sum of my experiences and the choices I've made then this is how you can get to know me. Parts of me at least.

2012. I work as a stage actor for three years. I learn to hold an audience's attention by telling stories. I love the art but the endless uncomfortable travel and poverty get old.

2015. I take a trip and have the fateful platonic meet-cute with a copywriter in a bar. He lays an egg in my brain: it's possible to have a fulfilling career that marries art and business.

I go home. I take an Advertising and PR course at the City of Glasgow College in 2016. I do well. I peak with my first national advertising campaign. I get my face on the front page of a newspaper. It feels pretty good.

In 2019 I attend Edinburgh Napier University to study Digital Marketing. I start the Student Marketing Society. I help launch a tonic water product. I finish with a first-class honours degree.

During my studies, I work for Vodafone as a Social Media Advisor. I discover the power of good brand strategy and adding value to people's lives.

I move on to become Assistant Marketing Coordinator for The Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Centre in Edinburgh - a wellness centre that offers alternative paths to personal growth. Emphasis on alternative. I'm promoted to Marketing Coordinator. I'm responsible for all marketing functions. I learn to become a generalist: jack of all trades, master of some.

COVID forces the Centre to close its doors. I develop an online platform that hosts our events online. It is a success. Sales from events surpass pre-pandemic levels. Our reach expands internationally. It is one of my proudest professional achievements so far.

2022. I move to America with my wife. I fill in learning gaps I noticed whilst working at the Centre. I learn HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I certify in Google Search, Google Analytics, Meta Advertising, SEO and Adobe (XD, PS, Illustrator & InDesign).

I found Sanasair Marketing Services LLC and offer my services freelance. I provide UX consultation for a major healthcare provider in Boston and create a website for a psychotherapist.

In the beginning, I thought marketing was going to be this fun job where I sat around in a black turtleneck, day drinking and pitching puns to sell cola. Today I have a holistic view of marketing that gives me a deep appreciation for its intrinsic value to businesses and to people. Great marketing helps businesses do well whilst doing good.

I'll always be learning. My failures have taught me as much if not more than my successes. I strive to be consistent, collaborative and authentic. I try to analyse issues holistically and am familiar with ambiguity. I like to have plan B's. Plan C's. Plan C 2.0's. I know that nothing is set in stone and events can alter your plans drastically. Like seemingly innocent conversations in bars.

I want to work with people that will build on my experience. While I'm not a masochist, I enjoy the humbling experience of learning something new. I like working with those who care about what they are doing and who they are doing it for.
